理想の姿勢を求めて、体に合わせて作るカスタムチェアー。目指すのは座禅の姿勢。
一つの作品を削り出す前、私はとても長い時間をかけて、使う人と、また木とも対話をします。木夢という工房の名前には、「人の夢を木に託し実現すること。」また「木の夢を形にする」という意味を込めました。木の中にまだ途方もない夢が眠っている。それを引き出すことが私の夢です。
About my work
Whenever I work with wood, I feel it is the most precious thing I do. I give the maximum respect for the life of trees, and make concession to the wood as the beauty of the wood is displayed. I never design for my own self-satisfaction . I never force the wood to my will as just one kind of material. Besides, the design must be refined for everyday life. These ideas are based on a traditional sense of beauty and nature which has been cultivated in Japan. .As you can see in Japanese traditional houses and gardens, accepting nature, being in symbiosis with nature and expressing the natural beauty in daily design, used to be the most important thing.
木を自由に生かす
日本の伝統建築に使われる木時をつなぎ合わせる「ほぞ組」の技術。また高度な精度感覚で究極の美を作り出す「指物」の技術。この二つを、家具作りに昇華させることで、より強固に美しく、木の生命力を生かしながら、決して力ずくでない自由な造形表現が可能になります。
Traditional technique
The Japanese traditional way of joinery is call “Hozogumi”. Also the handcrafted curved style that brings the wood’s best beauty is called “ Sashimono”. By using the both “Hozogumi” and “Sashimono” methodologies, the wood will get stronger and can use the natural wood flexibility to create a free unforced piece of art.
木に寄り添うための道具。
私は道具も手作りしています。300丁ほどある大小の小鉋も、最良のフィット感の“座り心地” を生み出すのに欠かせません。すべての鉋を自分の身体の一部のように自在に使いこなすことで、目で見てもほとんど分からないような繊細で複雑な三次元の加工が自由になります。
Special Tools “Kan-na”
I use the technique of sculpture for creating a maximum fit with the human body. This is a way to use over 300 small hand–made planes called “Kanna”. The “Kanna” can create delicate and complicated 3D(three dimensional) curves for the chair.

The human body is really sensitive and we believe when you meet the chair that fits your body it increases the natural healing ability of the body. Such a chair will be a partner besides all of your life.
